YOUR WEB-PAGES AND HOW THEY LINK

The main page of your website is the home-page (often called index.html), which most users will access first. This could be your only page and have everything on it, but normally you will want to link to other pages, depending on what your user is after.

The home page is where you show what the website is all about and where the user chooses the page(s) to see next. Most users will not go further than one or two pages, so keep it simple.

Show what you want to present in the website clearly on the home page in one or more pictures or basic clear text. At the same time present the choices, which your user can make to proceed in a clear way.

If you have a lot of background information about your business or hobby, put it in a separate page: ‘ABOUT US’ or ‘WHAT IS [your hobby]?’.

If you have multiple ways in which you and your staff or others can be contacted, have a separate ‘CONTACT US’ page, but if you only want enquiries either by one phone number and/or one e-mail address – put this on the home page.

If there are many related businesses or organisations with websites, which can also refer users to your page, have a separate ‘LINKS’ page.

Apart from that have just three or four pages with your main product ranges, activities, services or whatever and branch from those to further detail pages.
Complicated multi-level menus are possible, but can be hard to navigate and clutter the home page. Keep it simple.
